Summit County is one of the 63 county of Colorado, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Summit County is home to 23548 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 26843, It is Colorado's 20th most populous county. The county has a total area of 619.25 square miles (1603.85 sq km), of which, 608.16 square miles (1575.13 sq km) of it is land and 11.09 square miles (28.72 sq km) of it is water, making it the ninth smallest by size in Colorado. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Colorado.

As of the census of 2000, there were 23548 people in the county, organized into 9120 households, and 4768 families residing in the county. The population density was 38.7 people per square mile (14.94/kmē), it would be the 11th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Colorado. There were 24201 housing units at an average density of 39.8 per square mile (15.37/kmē). The average household size was 2.48 persons, and the average family size was 2.86 persons. The population's age distribution was 17.4% under the age of 18, 15.7% from 18 to 24, 44.3% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 3.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 139 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 144.9 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 26843, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 25883 White, 279 Black or African American, 159 American Indian, 255 Asian, 23 Native Hawaiian, and 244 from two or more races.
