Summers County, West Virginia is a county located in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. It is home to over 12999 people (2000 census). As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 13017, making it the 14th least populous county in West Virginia. The county comprises an area of 367.72 sq mi (952.39 kmē), of which, 361.17 square miles (935.43 kmē) of it is land and 6.54 square miles (16.94 kmē) of it is water, it is the 32nd largest by area in the U.S. state of West Virginia. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in West Virginia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12999 people in the county, organized into 5530 households, and 3756 families living in the county. The population density was 36 people per square mile (13.9/kmē), making it the 37th most densely populated county in West Virginia. There were 7331 housing units at an average density of 20.3 per square mile (7.84/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 persons, and the average family size was 2.84 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 20.5% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 24.7% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 104.6 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 107.5 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 13017, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 90.38% White, 8.2% Black or African American, 0.38% American Indian, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 0.83% from two or more races.
