Sullivan County is a county located in the United States of Indiana. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Sullivan County is home to 21751 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 21328 in July 2008, making it the 23rd least populous county in Indiana. The county extends throughout a territory of 454.04 sq mi (1175.96 square kilometre ), of which, 447.2 square miles (1158.24 square kilometre) of it is land and 6.85 square miles (17.74 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 19th largest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.

As of the census of 2000, there were 21751 people in the county, organized into 7819 households, and 5573 families living in the county. The population density was 48.6 people per square mile (18.76/kmē), it is 15th least densely populated county in Indiana. There were 8804 housing units at an average density of 19.7 per square mile (7.61/kmē). The average household size was 2.49 people, and the average family size was 2.96 people. In the county the population was spread out, with 22.6% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 86.8 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 86 females. The July 2008 population estimate is 21328, The racial makeup of the county was 20031 White, 994 Black or African American, 71 American Indian, 38 Asian, 3 Native Hawaiian, and 191 from two or more races.
