Suffolk County, Massachusetts is a county of the United States of Massachusetts. It is home to over 689807 people (2000 census). It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 732684, It is Massachusetts's fourth most populous county. The county encompasses an area of 120.19 sq mi (311.29 kmē ), of which, 58.52 square miles (151.57 kmē) of it is land and 61.68 square miles (159.75 kmē) of it is water, giving it the smallest by total area among Massachusetts's county. It is ranks eighth in the size of its inland waterways in Massachusetts.

As of the census of 2000, there were 689807 residents, 278722 households, and 139159 families in the county. The population density was 11788.4 people per square mile (4551.53/kmē), it is the most populated county in terms of population density. There were 292520 housing units at an average density of 4999 per square mile (1930.12/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 people, and the average family size was 3.17 people. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 20.2% under the age of 18, 15.1% from 18 to 24, 35.5% from 25 to 44, 18.1% from 45 to 64, and 11% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.5 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 732684, The racial makeup of the county was 66.75% White, 23.34% Black or African American, 0.49% American Indian, 7.6% Asian, 0.15% Native Hawaiian, and 1.68% from two or more races.
