Story County, Iowa is a county located in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. Story County had an official population of 79981 in 2000. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 86754, It is the ninth most populous county in the U.S. state of Iowa. The county has a total area of 573.7 miē (1485.88 kmē), of which, 572.86 square miles (1483.7 kmē) of it is land and 0.84 square miles (2.18 kmē) of it is water, it is the 42nd largest by area in the U.S. state of Iowa.
