Stevens County is one of the 39 county of Washington, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 40066 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 42050, making it the 22nd most populous county in Washington. It covers total area of 2540.64 square miles (6580.23 kmē), of which, 2478.3 square miles (6418.77 kmē) of it is land and 62.34 square miles (161.46 kmē) of it is water, it is the sixth largest by area in the U.S. state of Washington.

The population density was 16.2 people per square mile (6.25/kmē), giving it the 27th most densely populated county among the Washington. There were 17599 housing units at an average density of 7.1 per square mile (2.74/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.64 persons, and the average family size was 3.08 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 28.7% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 24.9% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.6 males. In July 2008, its estimated population was 42050, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 37931 White, 173 Black or African American, 2509 American Indian, 244 Asian, 73 Native Hawaiian, and 1120 from two or more races.
