Staples City is a one of the Todd and Wadena counties, Minnesota, located in Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of city in 2000 stood at 3104 as per the Census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 3019, It is the 178th largest by population in the U.S. state of Minnesota. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.55 mi˛ (11.78 sq km), of which, 4.53 square miles (11.73 sq km) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 168th largest by total area in Minnesota.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3104 residents, 1278 households, and 732 families in the city. The population density was 684.5 people per square mile (264.29/km˛), it would be the 414th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Minnesota.
