Stanton County is a county located in Nebraska, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. The population of the county was 6455 as per the 2000 census data. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 6310, It is the 47th largest in terms of population. The county spans an area of 431.06 miē (1116.44 kmē), of which, 429.83 square miles (1113.25 kmē) of it is land and 1.23 square miles (3.19 kmē) of it is water, it is the ninth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 6455 people in the county, organized into 2297 households, and 1784 families residing in the county. The population density was 15 people per square mile (5.79/kmē), it is Nebraska's 32nd most densely populated county. There were 2452 housing units at an average density of 5.7 per square mile (2.2/kmē). The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.16. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 29.8% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.4 males. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 6310, The racial makeup of the county was 6181 White, 26 Black or African American, 38 American Indian, 14 Asian, 0 Native Hawaiian, and 51 from two or more races.
