Stanton County is a county located in Kansas, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 2406. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 2148, making it the eighth least populous county in Kansas. It is spread over 680.06 square miles (1761.35 kmē), of which, 680 square miles (1761.19 kmē ) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 kmē) of it is water, making it the 71st largest by size in Kansas.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2406 people, 858 households, and 638 families residing in the county. The population density was 3.5 people per square mile (1.35/kmē), it is the 16th least populated county in terms of population density. There were 1007 housing units at an average density of 1.5 per square mile (0.58/kmē). The average household size was 2.74 people, and the average family size was 3.21 people. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 30.8% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 13% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 103.2 males. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 2148, The racial makeup of the county was 96.32% White, 1.12% Black or African American, 1.68% American Indian, 0.28% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, and 0.61% from two or more races.
