As of July 2008, the estimated population was 3186, It is the 193rd largest in terms of population. It is spread over 2.31 square miles (5.98 sq km), of which, 2.3 square miles (5.96 sq km ) of it is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 350th largest by total area among North Carolina.
