St. Tammany Parish is a parish located in Louisiana, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. The population of parish in 2000 stood at 191268 as per the Census data. The July 2008 population estimate is 228456, It is the fifth largest parish by population in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It has total area of 1124.08 sq mi (2911.35 kmē), of which, 854.15 square miles (2212.24 kmē) of it is land and 269.93 square miles (699.12 kmē) of it is water, making it Louisiana's 11th largest parish by total area. It is ranks tenth in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.

The population density was 223.9 people per square mile (86.45/kmē), it would be the eighth most densely populated parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. There were 75398 housing units at an average density of 88.3 per square mile (34.09/kmē). The average household size was 2.73 people, and the average family size was 3.15 people. Age range in the parish was well distributed with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 10% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.4 males.
