St. Mary Parish is a parish located in Louisiana, in the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. St. Mary Parish had an official population of 53500 in 2000. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 51083, giving it the 22nd largest population among Louisiana's parish. The parish spans an area of 1118.83 sq mi (2897.76 sq km), of which, 612.79 square miles (1587.12 sq km) of it is land and 506.04 square miles (1310.64 sq km) of it is water, it is the 12th largest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It is ranks fifth in the size of its inland waterways in Louisiana.

As of July 2008, the estimated population of the parish is 51083, The racial or ethnic makeup of the parish was 63.26% White, 32.47% Black or African American, 1.56% American Indian, 1.38% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.31% from two or more races.
