St. Lucie County is a United States county located in the United States of Florida. The population of the county was 192695 as per the 2000 census data. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 265108, making it the 20th most populous county in Florida. It is spread over 688.08 sq mi (1782.12 sq km), of which, 572.45 square miles (1482.64 sq km ) of it is land and 115.63 square miles (299.48 sq km) of it is water, giving it the 21st smallest by total area among Florida's county.

As of the census of 2000, there were 192695 people, 76933 households, and 54258 families living in the county. The population density was 336.6 people per square mile (129.96/kmē), it is the 17th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Florida. There were 91262 housing units at an average density of 159.4 per square mile (61.54/kmē). The average household size was 2.47 persons, and the average family size was 2.89 persons. In the county Age distribution was 22.6% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 265108, The racial makeup of the county was 78.67% White, 17.91% Black or African American, 0.37% American Indian, 1.64% Asian, 0.06% Native Hawaiian, and 1.35% from two or more races.
