St. John The Baptist Parish is a United States parish located in the United States of Louisiana. St. John The Baptist Parish had an official population of 43044 in 2000. In July 2008, its estimated population was 46994, It is the 23rd largest parish by population in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The parish encompasses an area of 347.84 square miles (900.9 square kilometre ), of which, 218.9 square miles (566.95 square kilometre) of it is land and 128.94 square miles (333.95 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the fifth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

In the parish the population was distributed as follows: 31.2% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 21.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.7 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 46994, The racial or ethnic makeup of the parish was 47.46% White, 50.69% Black or African American, 0.28% American Indian, 0.73% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, and 0.81% from two or more races.
