St. Helena Parish is a parish located in the United States of Louisiana. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 10525 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 10546, It is the seventh smallest in terms of population. The parish has a total area of 409.46 sq mi (1060.5 kmē), of which, 408.36 square miles (1057.65 kmē) of it is land and 1.09 square miles (2.82 kmē) of it is water, making it Louisiana's tenth smallest parish by total area.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 10525 people, 3873 households, and 2784 families residing in the parish. The population density was 25.8 people per square mile (9.96/kmē), it is the 12th least densely populated parish in the U.S. state of Louisiana. There were 5034 housing units at an average density of 12.3 per square mile (4.75/kmē). The average household size was 2.7 persons, and the average family size was 3.27 persons. In the parish Age distribution was 29% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the parish is 10546, The racial or ethnic makeup of the parish was 47.21% White, 51.92% Black or African American, 0.09% American Indian, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.64% from two or more races.
