St. Clair County is a county located in the United States of Missouri. The county has a population of 9652 as per the 2000 census data. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 9270, giving it the 25th smallest population among Missouri's county. The county spans an area of 701.9 sq mi (1817.91 kmē), of which, 676.66 square miles (1752.54 kmē) of it is land and 25.25 square miles (65.4 kmē) of it is water, it is the 30th largest by area in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is ranks sixth in the size of its inland waterways in Missouri.

As of the census of 2000, there were 9652 people in the county, organized into 4040 households, and 2790 families residing in the county. The population density was 14.3 people per square mile (5.52/kmē), it is the 20th least densely populated county in the U.S. state of Missouri. There were 5205 housing units at an average density of 7.7 per square mile (2.97/kmē). The average household size was 2.34 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons. In the county the population was spread out, with 23% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 101.4 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 106 females. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 9270, The racial makeup of the county was 97.04% White, 0.63% Black or African American, 0.86% American Indian, 0.22% Asian, 0.02% Native Hawaiian, and 1.23% from two or more races.
