St. Clair County is a county located in Alabama, in the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. The population of the county was 64742 as per the 2000 census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 79837, It is the 17th most populous county in the U.S. state of Alabama. It covers total area of 653.61 sq mi (1692.84 kmē), of which, 633.75 square miles (1641.4 kmē) of it is land and 19.86 square miles (51.44 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 40th largest by total area in Alabama.

As of the census of 2000, there were 64742 people, 24143 households, and 18437 families living in the county. The population density was 102.2 people per square mile (39.46/kmē), it is the 18th most densely populated county in the U.S. state of Alabama. There were 27303 housing units at an average density of 43.1 per square mile (16.64/kmē). The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.01. In the St. Clair County, 25.4% of the population was under the age of 18, 7.9% were 18 to 24, 30.7% were 25 to 44, 24.3% were 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 79837, The racial makeup of the county was 71066 White, 7437 Black or African American, 261 American Indian, 331 Asian, 19 Native Hawaiian, and 723 from two or more races.
