St. Charles Parish is a parish located in the United States of Louisiana. It is home to over 48072 people (2000 census). The parish's estimated population as of July 2008 was 51547, It is 21st most populous parish in Louisiana. It has total area of 410.16 mi˛ (1062.31 sq km), of which, 283.64 square miles (734.62 sq km) of it is land and 126.52 square miles (327.69 sq km) of it is water, it is the 11th smallest by area in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

In the parish the population was spread out, with 30.3% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 31.4% from 25 to 44, 21% from 45 to 64, and 9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 105 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 109.1 females. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 51547, The racial makeup of the parish was 70.46% White, 27.26% Black or African American, 0.33% American Indian, 1% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.94% from two or more races.
