St. Charles County is one of the 115 county of Missouri, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the St. Charles County is home to 283883 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 349407, making it Missouri's fourth largest county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 592.35 sq mi (1534.18 square kilometre), of which, 560.42 square miles (1451.48 square kilometre) of it is land and 31.93 square miles (82.7 square kilometre) of it is water, making it Missouri's 59th largest county by total area. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Missouri.

As of the census of 2000, there were 283883 people in the county, organized into 101663 households, and 77104 families living in the county. The population density was 506.6 people per square mile (195.6/kmē), making its Missouri's fourth most densely populated county. There were 105514 housing units at an average density of 188.3 per square mile (72.7/kmē). The average household size was 2.76 and the average family size was 3.18. In the county Age distribution was 29% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.8% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 349407, The racial makeup of the county was 92.31% White, 4.22% Black or African American, 0.29% American Indian, 1.87% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian, and 1.26% from two or more races.
