Spencer City is a city located in the Roane County, West Virginia, United States. In 2000, the population was 2352. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 2156, It is 69th most populous in West Virginia. It is spread over 1.2 mi˛ (3.11 square kilometre), of which, 1.19 square miles (3.08 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 square kilometre) of it is water, making it West Virginia's 130th largest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 2352 people in the city, organized into 1005 households, and 614 families living in the city. The population density was 1984.3 people per square mile (766.14/km˛), making it the 48th most densely populated city in West Virginia. There were 1154 housing units at an average density of 969.7 per square mile (374.4/km˛). It has an average household size was 2.25 persons, and the average family size was 2.89 persons. In the city the population was distributed as follows: 23.9% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 23.6% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 86.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.6 males. The median age was 41.1 years, The median age of males and females living in Spencer City was 37.7 and 43.3 years respectively. The racial makeup of the city was 97.62% White, 0.13% Black or African American, 0.21% American Indian, 0.68% Asian, 0% Native Hawaiian, 1.32% from two or more races and 0.04% Other races.
