In the county the population was distributed as follows: 22.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 25% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 111.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 112.5 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 18480, The racial makeup of the county was 10845 White, 7451 Black or African American, 34 American Indian, 33 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, and 116 from two or more races.
