South Toms River Borough is a United States borough located in the Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of 2000 the population was 3634. The borough's estimated population as of July 2008 was 3709, It is the 167th least populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Its area is just over 1.22 square miles (3.16 sq km), of which, 1.16 square miles (3 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, making it New Jersey's 114th smallest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3634 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 3131.9 people per square mile (1209.23/kmē), it would be the 226th most densely populated borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey. There were 1123 housing units at an average density of 968.1 per square mile (373.79/kmē). The average household size was 3.39 persons, and the average family size was 3.63 persons. In the borough Age distribution was 32.1% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.5 males. The median age is 31.9 years, The median age of males was 30 years, for females the median age was 33.7 years. The racial makeup of the borough was 2637 White, 769 Black or African American, 5 American Indian, 25 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 107 from two or more races and 91 Ohter races.
