South Toms River Borough is a United States borough located in the Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of 2000 the population was 3634. The borough's estimated population as of July 2008 was 3709, It is the 167th least populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Its area is just over 1.22 square miles (3.16 sq km), of which, 1.16 square miles (3 sq km) of it is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 sq km) of it is water, making it New Jersey's 114th smallest by total area.

As of the census of 2000, there were 3634 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 3131.9 people per square mile (1209.23/kmē), it would be the 226th most densely populated borough in the U.S. state of New Jersey. There were 1123 housing units at an average density of 968.1 per square mile (373.79/kmē). The average household size was 3.39 persons, and the average family size was 3.63 persons.
