South Sioux City City is a city located in Dakota County, Nebraska, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, city's population was 11925 inhabitants. In July 2008, its estimated population was 11936, making it the 14th most populous in Nebraska. It is spread over 5.2 square miles (13.47 kmē), of which, 4.9 square miles (12.69 kmē ) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 kmē) of it is water, it is the 17th largest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

As of the census of 2000, there were 11925 people in the city, organized into 4304 households, and 2961 families living in the city. The population density was 2431.6 people per square mile (938.85/kmē), it is 25th most densely populated city in Nebraska. There were 4557 housing units at an average density of 930 per square mile (359.08/kmē). The average household size was 2.72 people, and the average family size was 3.26 people. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 9049 White, 102 Black or African American, 281 American Indian, 381 Asian, 11 Native Hawaiian, 364 from two or more races and 1737 Ohter races.
