South River Borough, Middlesex County, New Jersey is a borough located in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 15322 inhabitants. Its population was estimated at 15682 in July 2008, It is 93rd most populous in New Jersey. It covers total area of 2.94 mi˛ (7.61 square kilometre), of which, 2.81 square miles (7.28 square kilometre) of it is land and 0.13 square miles (0.34 square kilometre) of it is water, giving it the 195th largest by total area among New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 15322 people, 457 households, and 284 families residing in the borough. The population density was 5444.7 people per square mile (2102.21/km˛), making its New Jersey's 98th most densely populated borough. There were 5769 housing units at an average density of 2053 per square mile (792.67/km˛). The average household size was 2.72 people, and the average family size was 3.23 people. In the borough Population was distributed with 23% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 20.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.6% who were 65 or older. The median age is 36.4 years, the median age of male residents at 35 and the median age of female residents at 38. The racial makeup of the borough was 83.55% White, 6.06% Black or African American, 0.12% American Indian, 3.54% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 2.85% from two or more races and 3.83% Other races.
