South Pasadena City is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, in the Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 5778. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city is 5548, It is the 385th most populous in the U.S. state of Florida. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.15 mi˛ (2.98 sq km), of which, 0.68 square miles (1.76 sq km) of it is land and 0.47 square miles (1.22 sq km) of it is water, making it Florida's 171st smallest by total area.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 5778 residents, 3660 households, and 1425 families in the city. The population density was 8530.6 people per square mile (3293.68/km˛), it is Florida's 23rd most densely populated city. There were 4555 housing units at an average density of 6698.5 per square mile (2586.31/km˛). The average household size was 1.5 persons, and the average family size was 2.16 persons. The population's age distribution was 2.9% under the age of 18, 1.5% from 18 to 24, 9.7% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 63.1% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 63.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 62.6 males. The median age was 70.6 years, the median age of male residents at 68.8 and the median age of female residents at 71.9. The racial makeup of the city was 5684 White, 12 Black or African American, 2 American Indian, 42 Asian, 1 Native Hawaiian, 25 from two or more races and 12 Ohter races.
