South Hill Town is a town in the Mecklenburg County, Virginia, United States. South Hill Town had an official population of 4403 in 2000. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the town is 4556, It is 134th most populous in Virginia. The town has a total area of 6.35 sq mi (16.45 kmē), of which, 6.32 square miles (16.37 kmē) of it is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 kmē) of it is water, it is the 121st largest by area in the U.S. state of Virginia.

As of the census of 2000, there were 4403 people, 1809 households, and 1191 families residing in the town. The population density was 696.2 people per square mile (268.8/kmē), making it the 234th most densely populated town in Virginia. There were 1988 housing units at an average density of 314.6 per square mile (121.47/kmē). The average household size was 2.33 people, and the average family size was 2.88 people. In the town the population is diverse age-wise, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 19.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 77.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 70.5 males. The median age of the town's population was 39.9 years, the median age of male residents at 36.6 and the median age of female residents at 42.7. The racial makeup of the town was 2570 White, 1736 Black or African American, 13 American Indian, 44 Asian, Native Hawaiian, 23 from two or more races and 17 Ohter races.
