South Amboy City is a city located in the Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As per the 2000 census, city has a population of 7913 inhabitants. The July 2008 population estimate is 7777, It is the 206th most populous in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It has total area of 2.7 mi˛ (6.99 sq km), of which, 1.55 square miles (4.01 sq km) of it is land and 1.15 square miles (2.98 sq km) of it is water, making it New Jersey's 226th largest by total area.

The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 94.22% White, 0.86% Black or African American, 0.19% American Indian, 1.38% Asian, 0.03% Native Hawaiian, 1.62% from two or more races and 1.71% Other races.
