Somerville Borough is one of the borough of Somerset County, New Jersey, located towards the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. The population of borough in 2000 stood at 12423 as per the Census data. In July 2008, its estimated population was 12637, It is the 127th largest by population in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough comprises an area of 2.36 square miles (6.11 kmē), giving it the 257th largest by total area among New Jersey.

As of the census of 2000, there were 12423 residents, 457 households, and 284 families in the borough. The population density was 5262.4 people per square mile (2031.82/kmē), making its New Jersey's 108th most densely populated borough. There were 4882 housing units at an average density of 2068.6 per square mile (798.69/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.49 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the borough the population is diverse age-wise, with 21.9% under the age of 18, 9% from 18 to 24, 35.8% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 14% who were 65 or older.
