Somerset County is a county located in the United States of Pennsylvania. In 2000, the population was 80023. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 77454, making it Pennsylvania's 37th largest county. It is spread over 1081.17 mi˛ (2800.22 square kilometre), of which, 1074.66 square miles (2783.36 square kilometre ) of it is land and 6.51 square miles (16.86 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the eighth largest in terms of geographical size.

The population density was 74.5 people per square mile (28.76/km˛), making it the 22nd least densely populated county in Pennsylvania. There were 37163 housing units at an average density of 34.6 per square mile (13.36/km˛). The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.95. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 22.3% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 18% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 77454, The racial makeup of the county was 96.73% White, 2.49% Black or African American, 0.1% American Indian, 0.32% Asian, 0.01% Native Hawaiian, and 0.34% from two or more races.
