Somerset County, New Jersey is a county of the United States of New Jersey. As of 2000 the population was 297490. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 324563, It is New Jersey's 13th most populous county. It has total area of 305.05 square miles (790.08 kmē), of which, 304.69 square miles (789.14 kmē) of it is land and 0.36 square miles (0.93 kmē) of it is water, makes it the 14th largest by total area in New Jersey.

The population's age distribution was 25.5% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 33.8% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 324563, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 249118 White, 29338 Black or African American, 622 American Indian, 41138 Asian, 235 Native Hawaiian, and 4112 from two or more races.
