Skagway City is one of the city of Skagway-Hoonah-Angoon Census Area, Alaska, located towards the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. It is home to over 862 people (2000 census). giving it the 60th largest population among Alaska. Its area is just over 464.35 square miles (1202.66 square kilometre), of which, 452.44 square miles (1171.81 square kilometre) of it is land and 11.91 square miles (30.85 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the eighth largest in terms of geographical size.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 862 residents, 401 households, and 215 families in the city. The population density was 1.9 people per square mile (0.73/kmē), it is the 67th least populated city in terms of population density. There were 502 housing units at an average density of 1.1 per square mile (0.42/kmē). The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.81.
