Sitka City And Borough, Alaska is a borough of the United States of Alaska. In 2000, borough's population was 8835 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 8889, making it the 11th most populous borough in Alaska. It covers total area of 4811.53 square miles (12461.81 sq km), of which, 2873.98 square miles (7443.57 sq km) of it is land and 1937.55 square miles (5018.23 sq km) of it is water, making it the sixth smallest by size in Alaska.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 8835 residents, 3278 households, and 2218 families in the independent city. The population density was 3.1 people per square mile (1.2/kmē), making it the fifth most densely populated independent city in Alaska. There were 3650 housing units at an average density of 1.3 per square mile (0.5/kmē). The average household size was 2.61 persons, and the average family size was 3.15 persons. In the independent city the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 30.9% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 96.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 95.4 females. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 8889, The racial or ethnic makeup of the independent city was 6012 White, 45 Black or African American, 1664 American Indian, 432 Asian, 87 Native Hawaiian, and 649 from two or more races.
