Sierra County, California is a county located in the Western Region (Pacific) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Sierra County is home to 3555 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 3263, It is California's second least populous county. It covers total area of 961.97 square miles (2491.49 square kilometre), of which, 953.38 square miles (2469.24 square kilometre) of it is land and 8.59 square miles (22.25 square kilometre) of it is water, making it California's 14th smallest county by total area.

The population density was 3.7 people per square mile (1.43/kmē), making its California's fourth least densely populated county. There were 2202 housing units at an average density of 2.3 per square mile (0.89/kmē). The average household size was 2.32 people, and the average family size was 2.83 people. In the county Age distribution was 23.3% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 24% from 25 to 44, 30.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 males there were 98.1 females. For every 100 males age 18 and over, there were 102.2 females. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 3263, The racial makeup of the county was 95.43% White, 0.21% Black or African American, 2.18% American Indian, 0.15% Asian, 0.12% Native Hawaiian, and 1.9% from two or more races.
