As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 2994, making it Nebraska's 26th smallest county. The county extends throughout a territory of 571.63 square miles (1480.51 kmē ), of which, 565.84 square miles (1465.52 kmē) of it is land and 5.78 square miles (14.97 kmē) of it is water, it is the 61st largest by area in the U.S. state of Nebraska.
