Sheridan County is one of the 23 county of Wyoming, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. The population of county in 2000 stood at 26560 as per the Census data. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 28662, It is the seventh largest county by population in the U.S. state of Wyoming. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2527.07 sq mi (6545.08 square kilometre), of which, 2523.32 square miles (6535.37 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.75 square miles (9.71 square kilometre) of it is water, makes it the seventh smallest by total area in Wyoming.

As of the census of 2000, there were 26560 people, 11167 households, and 7079 families residing in the county. The population density was 10.5 people per square mile (4.05/kmē), it is third most densely populated county in Wyoming. There were 12577 housing units at an average density of 5 per square mile (1.93/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.31 persons, and the average family size was 2.9 persons. In the county the population was distributed as follows: 24.1% under the age of 18, 8% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 males. The July 2008 population estimate is 28662, The racial makeup of the county was 96.17% White, 0.41% Black or African American, 1.63% American Indian, 0.4% Asian, 0.13% Native Hawaiian, and 1.26% from two or more races.
