Sheridan County is one of the 93 county of Nebraska, located towards the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 6198 inhabitants. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 5337, making it the 53rd most populous county in Nebraska. The county comprises an area of 2469.99 miē (6397.24 kmē), of which, 2441.04 square miles (6322.26 kmē) of it is land and 28.95 square miles (74.98 kmē) of it is water, giving it the fourth largest by total area among Nebraska's county. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in Nebraska.

The population density was 2.5 people per square mile (0.97/kmē), it is 18th least densely populated county in Nebraska. In the county Population was distributed with 25.6% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.5 males.
