Sheridan County is a United States county located in the United States of Kansas. According to the 2000 census it had a population of 2813 inhabitants. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 2510, It is the tenth smallest county by population in the U.S. state of Kansas. The county has a total area of 896.61 square miles (2322.21 sq km), of which, 896.36 square miles (2321.56 sq km) of it is land and 0.25 square miles (0.65 sq km) of it is water, makes it the 31st largest by total area in Kansas.


According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 2813 residents, 1124 households, and 796 families in the county. The population density was 3.1 people per square mile (1.2/kmē), giving it the 12th least densely populated county among the Kansas. There were 1263 housing units at an average density of 1.4 per square mile (0.54/kmē). It has an average household size was 2.46 persons, and the average family size was 3.01 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 26.3% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.8 males. Its population was estimated at 2510 in July 2008, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 2483 White, 5 Black or African American, 6 American Indian, 3 Asian, 4 Native Hawaiian, and 9 from two or more races.
