Shell Lake City is a United States city located in the Washburn County, Wisconsin, United States. The population of the city was 1309 as per the 2000 census data. The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 1393, It is 316th most populous in Wisconsin. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.22 sq mi (26.47 kmē), of which, 6.19 square miles (16.03 kmē) of it is land and 4.02 square miles (10.41 kmē) of it is water, it is the 59th largest by area in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It is ranks ninth in the size of its inland waterways in Wisconsin.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1309 people, 76 households, and 48 families residing in the city. The population density was 211.3 people per square mile (81.58/kmē), it is the 65th least densely populated city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. There were 890 housing units at an average density of 143.8 per square mile (55.52/kmē). The average household size was 2.16 and the average family size was 2.69.
