Shawneetown City is one of the city of Gallatin County, Illinois, located towards the Midwestern Region (East North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 1410. Its population in July 2008 was estimated to be about 1308, It is the 583rd most populous in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.23 square miles (3.19 sq km), of which, 1.19 square miles (3.08 sq km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 sq km) of it is water, it is the 617th largest by area in the U.S. state of Illinois.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1410 residents, 632 households, and 389 families in the city. The population density was 1181.8 people per square mile (456.3/kmē), it is 699th most densely populated city in Illinois. There were 693 housing units at an average density of 582.4 per square mile (224.87/kmē). The average household size was 2.2 persons, and the average family size was 2.83 persons.
