Shawnee City is one of the city of Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, located towards the Southern Region (West South Central) of United States. Shawnee City had an official population of 28692 in 2000. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the city is 30562, making it Oklahoma's 13th largest. It is spread over 44.67 miē (115.69 kmē), of which, 42.26 square miles (109.45 kmē ) of it is land and 2.4 square miles (6.22 kmē) of it is water, it is the 16th largest in terms of geographical size. It is ranks 13 in the size of its inland waterways in Oklahoma.

As of the census of 2000, there were 28692 people in the city, organized into 11311 households, and 7306 families residing in the city. The population density was 678.9 people per square mile (262.12/kmē), it is the 309th most densely populated city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. There were 12651 housing units at an average density of 299.4 per square mile (115.6/kmē). The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.96. In the city the population was spread out, with 24.3% under the age of 18, 15.2% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.2 males. The median age of the city's population was 33.3 years, the median age of male residents at 30.1 and the median age of female residents at 36.3. The racial or ethnic makeup of the city was 77.03% White, 4.06% Black or African American, 12.82% American Indian, 0.95% Asian, 0.05% Native Hawaiian, 4.37% from two or more races and 0.72% Other races.
