Shannon County is a county located in South Dakota, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, county's population was 12466 inhabitants. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 13637, giving it the 14th largest population among South Dakota's county. The county comprises an area of 2096.65 square miles (5430.3 square kilometre), of which, 2093.88 square miles (5423.12 square kilometre) of it is land and 2.77 square miles (7.17 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the eighth largest in terms of geographical size.
