Seward County is a county located in Nebraska, in the Midwestern Region (West North Central) of United States. In 2000, the population was 16496. As of July 2008, the population was estimated at 16758, It is 18th most populous county in Nebraska. Its area is just over 575.73 mi˛ (1491.13 sq km), of which, 574.75 square miles (1488.6 sq km) of it is land and 0.97 square miles (2.51 sq km) of it is water, it is the 51st largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 16496 people, 6013 households, and 4215 families residing in the county. The population density was 28.7 people per square mile (11.08/km˛), it is Nebraska's 14th most densely populated county. There were 6428 housing units at an average density of 11.2 per square mile (4.32/km˛). The average household size was 2.53 persons, and the average family size was 3.04 persons. In the county Age distribution was 24.7% under the age of 18, 14.3% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.5 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 16758, The racial makeup of the county was 16382 White, 80 Black or African American, 51 American Indian, 81 Asian, 16 Native Hawaiian, and 148 from two or more races.
