Selma City is one of the city of Dallas County, Alabama, located towards the Southern Region (East South Central) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 20512. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 18847, It is the 26th largest by population in the U.S. state of Alabama. Its area is just over 14.44 mi˛ (37.4 sq km), of which, 13.86 square miles (35.9 sq km) of it is land and 0.58 square miles (1.5 sq km) of it is water, it is the 84th largest by area in the U.S. state of Alabama.

As of the census of 2000, there were 20512 people in the city, organized into 8196 households, and 5343 families living in the city.
