As of July 2008, the estimated population was 23627, making it Indiana's 27th smallest county. The county spans an area of 192.73 sq mi (499.17 kmē), of which, 190.39 square miles (493.11 kmē) of it is land and 2.34 square miles (6.06 kmē) of it is water, it is the fifth smallest by area in the U.S. state of Indiana.
