Scioto County is a United States county located in the United States of Ohio. As of 2000 the population was 79195. In July 2008, its estimated population was 76587, making it Ohio's 33rd largest county. The county comprises an area of 616.07 square miles (1595.61 square kilometre), of which, 612.27 square miles (1585.77 square kilometre) of it is land and 3.8 square miles (9.84 square kilometre) of it is water, it is the 12th largest in terms of geographical size.

As of the census of 2000, there were 79195 people, 30871 households, and 21372 families living in the county. The population density was 129.3 people per square mile (49.92/kmē), giving it the 39th most densely populated county among the Ohio. There were 34054 housing units at an average density of 55.6 per square mile (21.47/kmē). The average household size was 2.45 persons, and the average family size was 2.96 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 24.4% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population was 76587, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 72345 White, 2265 Black or African American, 558 American Indian, 274 Asian, 22 Native Hawaiian, and 1123 from two or more races.
