Schleswig-Holstein


Schleswig-Holstein lies on the base of the peninsula of Jutland between the Baltic SeaMap of Schleswig-Holstein in Germany and the North Sea. Schleswig-Holstein borders on Denmark in the north, the North Sea in the west, the Baltic Sea and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the east, and Lower Saxony and Hamburg in the south. It is the twelth largest federal state of Germany by area, with an area of 15,799 sq km (6,100 sq mi). It is ninth largest in population among the Germany, with 2.83 million inhabitants.  There are 179 inhabitants living in Schleswig-Holstein per sq km. It is divided up into eleven districts and four urban districts. Kiel is the capital of the State.

Schleswig-Holstein PopulationThe population of Schleswig-Holstein is 2,837,373 (2008), of which Schleswig-Holstein Population Ageing1,448,435 is female and 1,388,938 is male, total population up 0.11 per cent over a year earlier. The birth rate was 8.9 per 1000 and death rate was 10.6 per 1000 in 2006.  In 2008, 14.56 percent of the population under the age of 15, fell from 14.83 per cent over a previous year. The proportion of people aged 65 and over rose from 20.45 per cent to 20.84 per cent. Correspondingly, the median age (aged 15-64) of the population fell from 64.73 to 64.6 over the same period. The overall dependency ratio is 547 per 1000 in 2008. The Sex ratio of total population is 0.959 male(s)/female.

Schleswig-Holstein is the tenth largest in both nominal GDP and GDP (PPP) among the Germany.Schleswig-Holstein GDP : Services, Industries and Agriculture Its nominal GDP per capita is €24,700, it is ranked as the 9th largest economy by nominal GDP per capita in Germany, its GDP purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita is €24,000,  ranked 9th among the Germany. Total GDP of Schleswig-Holstein is €70 billion, of which service sector contributes around 76.11%, industry 22.32%, and agriculture 1.58%. Its real annual growth rate is 2.5 in 2006, rose from 0.2 over a previous year. Its income of household was 19,695 Euros per inhabitant in 2006. The unemployment rate has recently decreased from 10.2% in 2005 to 7.9% in 2007.

Schleswig-Holstein EducatiionRegarding to the state road network, in 2008 there were 9,880 km of roadways in Schleswig-Holstein, including 498 km of motorways. In 2007, about 1.62 million passenger cars (equal to 572 cars per 1,000 people) and 1.80 million road good vehicles circulated on the national road network. The state railway network, in 2008 totalled 1,302 km of which 299 km is electrified. The state inland waterways network comprised 485 km of navigable rivers and channells.

There were 3.07 million tourists arrivals in 2008. Over 0.56 millions pupils and students, 20% of the total population, are in the education system. Of which, percentage of enrollment student are in, 15% pre-primary, 22% primary, 34%  lower secondary, 16% higher secondary, 3% post secondary and 10% tertiary.
