Schenectady County is a county located in New York, in the Northeastern Region (Mid-Atlantic) of United States. According to the latest population census dating back to 2000, the Schenectady County is home to 146555 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 151427, making it New York's 22nd largest county. The county spans an area of 209.62 miē (542.91 kmē), of which, 206.1 square miles (533.8 kmē) of it is land and 3.52 square miles (9.12 kmē) of it is water, makes it the seventh smallest by total area in New York.

The population density was 711.1 people per square mile (274.56/kmē), it is New York's 12th most densely populated county. There were 65032 housing units at an average density of 315.5 per square mile (121.82/kmē). The average household size was 2.38 people, and the average family size was 2.97 people. Age range in the county was well distributed with 24.3% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 23% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males. Its population was estimated at 151427 in July 2008, The racial makeup of the county was 127519 White, 14193 Black or African American, 524 American Indian, 6041 Asian, 87 Native Hawaiian, and 3063 from two or more races.
