Sarasota County is a one of the county from Florida's 67 counties, located in Southern Region (South Atlantic) of United States. As of 2000 the population was 325957. The county's estimated population as of July 2008 was 372057, It is the 14th largest county by population in the U.S. state of Florida. The county comprises an area of 725.18 square miles (1878.21 sq km), of which, 571.55 square miles (1480.31 sq km) of it is land and 153.63 square miles (397.9 sq km) of it is water, it is the 43rd largest by area in the U.S. state of Florida.

The population density was 570.3 people per square mile (220.19/kmē), it is ninth most densely populated county in Florida. There were 182467 housing units at an average density of 319.2 per square mile (123.24/kmē). The average household size was 2.13 persons, and the average family size was 2.61 persons. In the county the population is diverse age-wise, with 16.2% under the age of 18, 5% from 18 to 24, 21.7% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 31.5% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males. As of July 2008, the estimated population of the county is 372057, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 345294 White, 17678 Black or African American, 967 American Indian, 4511 Asian, 119 Native Hawaiian, and 3488 from two or more races.
