The city's estimated population as of July 2008 was 155796, It is the 27th largest by population in the U.S. state of California. It is spread over 40.37 mi˛ (104.56 square kilometre), of which, 40.13 square miles (103.94 square kilometre ) of it is land and 0.25 square miles (0.65 square kilometre) of it is water, making it California's 52nd largest by total area.
