San Miguel County, New Mexico


San Miguel County is one of the 33 county of New Mexico, located towards the Western Region (Mountain) of United States. As per the 2000 census, county has a population of 30126 inhabitants. According to July 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the county is 28558, giving it the 16th largest population among New Mexico's county. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4735.63 miē (12265.23 kmē), of which, 4717.04 square miles (12217.08 kmē) of it is land and 18.59 square miles (48.15 kmē) of it is water, it is the ninth largest by area in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is ranks fourth in the size of its inland waterways in New Mexico.

According to 2000 Census Bureau, there were 30126 people, 11134 households, and 7533 families residing in the county. The population density was 6.4 people per square mile (2.47/kmē), it is New Mexico's 19th most densely populated county. There were 14254 housing units at an average density of 3 per square mile (1.16/kmē). The average household size was 2.58 persons, and the average family size was 3.1 persons. Age range in the county was well distributed with 27.4% under the age of 18, 10.9% from 18 to 24, 27% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.7% who were 65 or older. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.9 males. It has an estimated population (as of July 2008) of 28558, The racial or ethnic makeup of the county was 93.9% White, 1.3% Black or African American, 2.51% American Indian, 0.79% Asian, 0.15% Native Hawaiian, and 1.35% from two or more races.
